Book summary:
Told in four parts; part one is Friedrich in Germany in 1933, part two is Mike in Pennsylvania in 1935, and part three is Ivy in California in 1942. Part four is the three combined in New York in 1951.
A boy named Otto discovers a harmonica and then finds three girls cursed to remain in the same place until someone finds them and gives them a wind instrument. Otto finds them and they enchant his harmonica. That same harmonica is passed down from Friedrich, to Mike, to Ivy, and then to Ivy’s friend Kenny. The harmonica binds these five young lives together by the thread of destiny. Each child plays an instrument, and they each grow up and play together in the same orchestra.

Thoughts: I’ve read one other of Pan Muñoz Ryan’s books, and it was amazing. When I read this one, I also thought it was amazing. Creatively combining historical fiction with a little bit of fantasy, this is a beautifully written story. A tale of music that will inspire your soul.
