Book summary:
Off the coast of England resides the islands of Scilly. On one of the islands lives a boy named Alfie and his parents. His father is a fisherman, and sometimes Alfie helps his father catch fish.
One day, while Alfie and his dad are out fishing, Alfie hears the cry of an injured child. The cry is coming from a nearby, deserted island. The two investigate further on the island and find a girl about twelve. She is sick, injured, and can only speak one word. Lucy.
Alfie and his parents decide that “Lucy” must be the girl’s name, and they take her into their home to heal her. The only things Lucy has with her are a one-eyed teddy bear and a blanket with the name “Wilhelm” on it. With a name like that on her blanket, the entire island has a terrible thought. Is Lucy a German? Their enemy?

Thoughts: This was actually a really great novel! I haven’t read many WW1 books, and this one was quite good. There were a few parts where I cried… don’t judge me😅😉 You know it’s a good book when it makes you cry.
